Phew! We all know the feeling…life gets so busy and we give so much of ourselves to projects, situations and people that we wake up one day and realise months have gone by in a blurry blink and we are depleted. Time to redress the balance! So, post-book launch, nourishment is most certainly the theme for June, replenishing the deficit with all things good, wholesome and healing.

One of the things I find crucial is to really listen to what food my body needs at different times of the day, week, month and year. Not the odd rumbling tantrum for a Kit Kat, but the more fundamental, physiological, chemical yearnings. At the moment, I am craving tomatoes, oranges, cranberry juice and my mum’s roti (I resist making it for myself when I am far from her, as it just seems wrong somehow! But when I do, I use spelt flour mixed with a little natural yoghurt instead, for a wheat-free version). So, clearly, vitamins and comfort are on the menu.
Lots of fresh, vital and zesty dishes in my kitchen this week – such as lunches of hot foil-steamed fish with black pepper and lime served on a bowlful of chopped pomodorinos, young garlic, tangy flecks of jalapeno, lime juice, capers, extra virgin olive oil and torn parsley.

And when out and about recently, it has been spent relishing the heart-warming roast chicken with tarragon gravy at Bibendum, perking up with a knickerbocker glory at the quirky Bob Bob Ricard and soothing oneself with carb-induced calm from all manner of heavenly baked goods at Princi. Before lots and lots of early restful sleep…

Also, I was informed yesterday of a way in which we can give back, not only to ourselves, but to others right now too. If you buy your copy of the uplifting Slumdog Millionaire DVD from 1st-14th June from Tesco – they’ll give £1 from each sale to charity Railway Children!

Oh, and don’t forget to check out the food James has been devouring, sorry, enjoying, at The Bull & Last, and post your recipe creations for TAKE 3 to
the Word of Mouth Blog or enter the competition here.

My love, as ever,
